Ship &
Ocean outsourcing capabilities in commercial ship and floating
facilities design and engineering are evidenced by the
diversity of the projects that have been completed by our
partners. In addition, to developing new building and conversion
design for all standard ship types, Ship &
Ocean has been involved in supervising of the design of
many highly complex ships, including roll-on
/ roll-off vessels, chemical tankers, gas
carriers, salvage vessels, self-discharging
bulk carriers and dredges.
As a recent
example of work of this nature, ship & Ocean has been
supervising the design of double hull
tankers by our partners to be compliant with OPA90 and / or IMO requirements. Floating facilities designed
by our partners and international clients have included
offshore bulk cargo transfer units, power stations, offshore
crude oil storage and processing vessels and detention
facilities.
A challenging project
addressing both ship and floating facility design
considerations was recently entrusted to Ship & Ocean. This
assignment required the definition of a system to load large
ore carriers at sea, outside the draft restriction imposed
by the Orinoco River Bar. The successful system approach
developed by our partner employed a floating ore
transfer station permanently moored outside outside of the
bar, supplied by a shallow draft self-discharging shuttle
ship operating from the loading port upstream of the bar.
Export ore carriers are
loaded by a ship loader on the transfer station while
made fast alongside. Existing bulk carriers were
converted to satisfy both transfer station and shuttle
ship functions.
