Ship and Ocean is a family owned / run
company dating back to no less than three
generations. For decades we have been
acting as broker for  all types of water vessels and riding the waves, constantly
in search of surmounting the so far
insurmountable raw power of the rough
ocean. In calm waters even a dingy can be
considered as a practical floating "object", but decades of experience as a ship's captain,
ranging from a river cargo boat to the huge
oil tankers has taught us not only to respect
the ocean but to have a profound in-depth
  understanding of this intrinsic element
known as salt water and its inherent effect
on our marine vessels when combined with adverse whether conditions.

However, the ocean has presented humans with a more challenging task than reaching the moon! In an intriguing way the company name is a representation of this battle of supremacy; on the one hand man makes the ship that on the other hand challenges the imposing laws of physics in the ocean. The forces that are subjected to even the largest ships are so powerful that if several factors coexist, can severely damage or sink a ship. Such factors 'primarily" consist of high wind energy being transformed into waves; a prolonged state may occasionally merge the kinetic energy of two large waves, creating one monster wave. If at this stage there is a ship at the crest of the wave, the ship literally dives into the ocean with a colossal wave falling on top of it, causing it to either break or sink.

Even without such unique circumstances our water vessels still have to endure constant hurricanes, storms, extreme low temperatures, and some even frozen seas and the hazards scattered icebergs near the poles which caused the infamous sinking of the Titanic. To add further complications to the design of marine vessels, numerous other governing factors are to be carefully considered and catered for. Some of the primary factors are as follows:

Fuel economy, Range, Load capacity, Speed, Stoppage distance, Manoeuvrability, Type of material used, Corrosive durability and prevention, Metal toughness (not hardness), Type of propulsion used, Propeller design, Navigation systems, Automated systems, Minimum maintenance and many more.

With the advent of so many variables, obstacles and limitations set by the laws of physics, years of study was made into a design worthy of the annotation 21st Century ships. What this entails is a number of key influencing factors which determine the survivability of the ship in either combat mode or against the worst storms that our ocean can muster. Our partners design department has successfully made a concerted effort to develop a very aerodynamic body, incorporating non-conventional material and paint to tackle several problems simultaneously. They include:

1) A major reduction in wind drag, (The body of a large ship will literally act as a sail working against the engines); the design also has a stealthy effect as well as appeasing looks.
2) Reduction in fluid flow resistance against the body, giving subsequent favourable reduction in fuel consumption and overall running costs.
3) A major reduction in accumulation of algae which is responsible for an increase of a ship's drag in water by up to 45%; (Algae is an aquatic photosynthetic organism that differs from plants in not having true leaves, roots or stems and includes the seaweed's).
4) A significant superior survivability against freak waves and more strength throughout the body.

We have also spent years in researching the never ending optimum design in efficiency of a propeller of a ship which has a profound effect on the fuel economy, speed and the amount of vibration which is transmitted back into the ship. It must be noted that one of the most sensitive aspects of manufacturing any powered vessel is the BALANCING of the drive shaft at a precisely calculated angle and methods and procedures carried out to ensure the huge forces transmitted by the engine are all 'Concentric." many ship manufacturers have a weakness and the consequence of it is a very unhappy crew who are subjected to constant vibration due to unbalanced propellers.

Ship & Ocean has a vast network relationship in all aspects appertaining to any type of marine vessel, stretching throughout the globe, giving us unsurpassed versatility and response time for any requirement that a customer may have.
